Human Unity and Human Will

An interesting and appropriate concept was just brought to my attention in Orson Scott Card’s book Xenocide.

“…when a human being chooses to bond with another person, when he makes a commitment to a community, it is not just a social phenomenon. It’s a physical event as well.” (p. 63)

If you think about it this concept is so simple and so permeating it’s becoming a more exhilarating reality that we are just getting around to actualizing this idea in every possible way. Of course the telephone, broadcast media and internet have all done wonders for our ability to become a realized human community, but I think there is more in store for us very soon. Certain concepts that were strictly in the realm of religion or mysticism will not seem so radical and we will be able to communicate and interact with each other and the universe in many new and exciting ways.

I know I can’t wait.

And I know these ideas to be true because people want to be connected, the will to unite is a powerful thing that is impossible to subvert.
